How to Save HikerQuests Maps & Hikes Offline

Download before you disconnect.

  1. Sign in and open Offline basecamp.
  2. Tap “Download trail pack” while connected. Wait for the complete status.
  3. Save your progress snapshot if you want your existing logs available offline.
  4. Open the saved map and checklist. Test them with airplane mode on before departure.
  5. Keep the app visible for GPS recording. Export your track as GPX before closing.
  6. Reconnect and open Offline basecamp to sync pending logs, photos and reports.

The pack includes Catskills OpenStreetMap trail lines, mapped destination points and all challenge checklists. It is not a topographic basemap and has no contours or turn-by-turn routing. Some destinations have no bundled GPS pin. Private/restricted ways are excluded from displayed trail lines where tagged.

GPS requires permission and a device fix. Browser recording can pause when the screen locks or another app opens. Location and downloads must be tested on your phone; they are not emergency navigation. The browser may evict saved data if storage is tight. Keep a separate backup map.

Add to your home screen using Safari’s Share menu on iPhone or your Android browser’s install menu. HTTPS is required. Signing out offers to clear this device’s private offline records.

Historic maps & your own routes

Open Trail history, choose an area, then download its map and stories. In My hikes, load the routes you want and select Save loaded routes offline. Open Offline adventures and test airplane mode before departure. Only downloaded historic areas and saved routes are available; modern street tiles require internet.

Use the opacity control to compare map eras. Historic alignment can be offset, and old roads or buildings do not establish present access. Foreground location updates need permission and a visible page. Browser storage can be evicted; keep a separate navigation backup.

A recorded track can be reviewed in the journal after reconnecting, or exported as GPX. Imported journal entries and new history-passport visits require an online save. Offline hike check-ins, reports and their photos use the separate pending-upload queue.
