Choose the mapped turnaround and verify road and trail access. Carry supplies for the return and do not continue toward the summit simply to match a mileage figure from another person’s outing.

DEC’s Sundown page lists 5.4 miles for the valley return; its general Catskill list gives 5.3. Because the sources differ, the comparison distance is left unset.
