Tillman Ravine Trail: a Stokes State Forest loop
Tillman Ravine is a good Stokes choice when your group would rather spend its time looking closely at a forested ravine than chasing a distant summit. Give this shorter loop its own outing instead of squeezing it into the last daylight after a ridge hike.

Start here
The state trail brochure places access along Dimon Road on the western side of Stokes. Use the forest map to choose the designated lot.
Terrain & what to see
The brochure rates the white-marked loop moderate. A short distance does not remove the need to slow down on wet or uneven ground.
Let the ravine setting set the pace: look for changes in light, rock texture and vegetation from the marked path.
Before hiking
Check Stokes road and trail notices, especially after storms. Keep children close to the group and avoid improvising a creek crossing or climbing down banks for a photograph.
Landscape & trail notes
Tillman Ravine is one of the named destinations in Stokes State Forest. It is a separate outing from Sunrise Mountain, even though both belong in the same regional trip plan.
After the hike
Compare a future Sunrise Mountain visit before leaving the area. On your wall, share one useful detail about footing or the entrance you used, alongside your favorite woodland photograph.
