1800s · 1887

New York State acquired the Senate House property in 1887; a museum building followed in 1927. Preserving the site added another layer to the events remembered there. Look at a historic attraction twice: first for the earlier story, then for the choices later people made to preserve and explain it. What is displayed? What needs more context? A visit can inspire a caption about how communities decide which places to remember.
