Historic Huguenot Street describes Esopus use of this area for centuries before European settlement. The landscape’s history does not begin with the surviving houses. Leave room for that longer story when describing a day near the Wallkill. A museum account is a starting point, not the whole of Indigenous history. Notice whose account is being presented and seek additional sources before repeating detailed claims.
