The Trail Conference’s Section 12 guide identifies part of the former O&W Kingston-line corridor along the Bashakill approach to Wurtsboro. The railway alignment explains some of the comparatively level walking before the route climbs onto the ridge. Open the 1904 Ellenville or 1943 Wurtsboro layer and compare labeled rail alignments with the modern route you actually recorded. Keep the two maps at the same scale and move the opacity slider slowly. A mismatch may reflect a changed alignment, scan distortion or GPS error. The historic map is evidence of a past landscape, not permission to follow every visible grade. Stay on the signed public route and check current flood and access notes.
