1900s · 1936

Val-Kill Cottage housed a factory from 1926 to 1932. In 1936, it was converted into living space for Eleanor Roosevelt and her secretary, Malvina Thompson. A building can outlive the job it was created to do. Look for changing uses during your next historic-site visit, using official interpretation to distinguish documented changes from guesses based on appearance.
