Frederick Vanderbilt purchased the Hyde Park estate in 1895. The National Park Service places the mansion within a longer property history. An estate invites more than a photograph of a grand building. Ask what its paths, views and service spaces suggest, then use interpretation to test those impressions. Stay on permitted routes and distinguish what the source establishes from what you wonder about.
